Access lists are lists of specific users that either are allowed to view certain content or are not allowed to view it.

Each access list can be configured as a "deny" list, or an "allow" list.

In both cases, if you are using an access list, it means that guests will be denied access by default (as they can neither be confirmed or denied by name).

If you want a more loose scheme, it's probably better just to deny the trouble makers by setting your access list to "deny". If you want to be much more anal with who you allow to view certain things, then you will want to set the access list to "allow", since only users specifically mentioned will be granted access.

Access lists, although always completely optional, can be used for a variety of different modules throughout Theia. Even your members will have access to a few different types of access lists (such as for their profile, their blog or who can see them in stealth mode).

And of course, you can also use access lists for managing a section's permission scheme.

Additionally, it is possible to synchronize access lists so you only need to update a primary list, while synchronized lists will automatically update. For more information on synchronizing access lists, go here.
