I don't know how many of you have read the current license, but there are a couple of limitations on the modification/distribution of Theia.

Namely these two things:

1) you can't remove the powered by notice
2) you can't include portions of Theia in any commercial product

Anyhow, I intend on switching to a more mainstream license when the stable release of Theia comes out (slated for December 25th, 2009). Thus, these two previous limitations will be gone!

I am fully aware that by most definitions of "open source", it is implied that you retain the ability to sell derived works and so forth (something that the current license doesn't permit). This will no longer be an issue in a couple months from now!

When the stable version of Theia is available, you WILL be able to resell Theia, and any derived works you produce from it.

I've hesitated to do this for a couple reasons, and one of the most crucial has been because it would prevent me from enforcing a "no removal of the powered-by policy". I originally wanted to charge a $100 fee to remove this notice, but I have decided that I will let this go, and let people do whatever they want.

I am hoping that the new license, which will guarantee more freedom, will entice folks to get involved in developing forked projects from Theia, and to simply provide the end-user with a greater satisfaction of what they can do with Theia.

Yes, I am still very concerned with turning a profit, since I have now made SikoSoft my livilihood. Obviously, I will start to turn to encouraging donations a bit more, since I will be drawing a line through one of the recent ideas I had to generate revenue. That and I figure that if the project is big enough, and has enough support of a community behind it, that this will generally mean: more users = more changes someone will purchase priority support.

Well, here's hoping!
