Generally speaking, it seems as though the section-based item settings only affect the display of an item when you view the item itself (and not when viewing item listings in a section).
This means if you have changed a setting to say that the number of views shouldn't show, it only won't show when viewing the item, but still shows in the section listing.
The section listing should take these settings into account as well.
