Now, when I say a "holiday", what I am referring to here is an annual event.

That is, you should use the calendar module directly when you want to add one time events that don't occur each year, but when you want an event to show up each and every year on the same date, you'll want to add it as a holiday instead.

To do this, click the "tools" page, and look under the "language management" area for a link reading "manage calendar holidays" (admin tool 144). The reason this feature resides in "language management" is because different languages on your site can have different holidays.

On the "manage calendar holidays" page, there are a few fields you will need to enter. The first is the "day" of the month; that is a number between 1 and 31. The second field you will need to select is the "month" of the year field, where you enter the numeric value of the month, between 1 and 12. And finally, the "name" of the holiday.

Holidays will show up each and every year, and they are public events that everyone will see (both using the calendar and, if enabled, on the home page).

Unfortunately, at this time it is not possible to add dynamic holiday dates, for holidays that change date each year (such as Easter or Thanksgiving). If you want to add one of these holidays, you should just use the calendar module directly and add it as an event that is public. In the future, we may allow for dynamic holiday dates through the "manage calendar holidays" tool as well.
