Depending on which theme(s) you are using, rounded corners may or may not be automatically enabled.

If they are enabled, and you are want to disable this feature, or if they are off and you want to turn it on, then you will need to modify the theme's settings. Since some themes may look better with rounded corners, while some may require sharp clean edges, controlling whether or not icons, avatars are awards are rounded is done on a theme-basis.

Load up the tools page and scroll down to "theme management" and click the "modify theme settings" link (admin tool 103). There are three fields here which are related to the automated rounding of corners:

  • round corners - icons
  • round corners - awards
  • round corners - avatars

A value of 0 disables rounded corners for the respective area, while a value of 1 enables the use of rounded corners.
